Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, on Monday visited the Madi-Okollo District to assess the construction progress of the modern sports stadium being built under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development and Management (USMID-AF) project.
Funded by a $159 million grant from the World Bank in 2019, the USMID-AF project allocated over 10 billion shillings to the construction of five sports complexes in the refugee host districts of Kiryandongo, Terego, Madi-Okollo, and Kamwemge.
The Madi-Okollo District stadium, currently under construction by Jagens Technical Services, is estimated to cost 2.5 billion shillings.
When completed, it will boast a football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts, and a jogging track.
Minister Ogwang, who has been on a supervision tour of these sports facilities was happy with the impact these sports facilities will have on the community.
“These facilities will not only provide opportunities for citizens and foreigners in the refugee settlements to improve their athletic abilities but will also help expand the talent pool in the country,” he stated.
Last week, the Minister visited the Terego sports facility as part of his supervision tour.
