Mbarara City Break Three-Year Away Winless Curse with Victory Over BUL

Mbarara City ended their three-year away win drought with a 2-0 victory over BUL FC in the Uganda Premier League on Wednesday, October 2, at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.

This marks the Mbarara-based side’s first away win since June 16, 2021, when they defeated Kyetume.

Seiri Arigumaho was the hero for Mbarara City, netting twice to secure the much-needed victory for Livingston Mbabazi’s side.

The Ankole Lions took the lead five minutes before halftime when Arigumaho skillfully navigated BUL’s defense and slotted the ball home after a defensive lapse by the hosts.

Arigumaho doubled the lead on the hour mark with a composed finish, following a cross that Joel Mutakubwa, BUL’s goalkeeper, failed to clear.

This victory places Mbarara City in sixth position on the league table with five points, while BUL, last season’s runners-up, are languishing second from bottom with only two points after four games.

BUL’s disappointing campaign so far includes two draws against Police (0-0) and KCCA (1-1), and two consecutive losses to Villa (1-2) and now Mbarara City (0-2).

Remarkably, Mbarara City’s previous away win also came under the guidance of coach Livingston Mbabazi.

The gaffer led the team to a 3-1 victory over Kyetume before leaving for a series of other coaching assignments, including stints with Uganda Cranes, Arua Hill, and Vipers.

His return to Mbarara City has brought a renewed sense of purpose to the team, culminating in this long-awaited triumph.

Looking ahead, BUL will aim to turn their fortunes around when they face URA at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, after the international break, while Mbarara City will host Kitara at Kakyeka on October 18.
