Wakiso Giants’ Request to Host Vipers at St. Mary’s Declined

The Uganda Premier League secretariat has turned down a request from Wakiso Giants to host their upcoming league match against Vipers at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The club had submitted the request in a letter dated 23rd September 2024, but the UPL secretariat, after what they termed as an internal review, decided that the fixture (Match #35) should remain at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso, as originally planned.

Despite the decision, Wakiso Giants have been encouraged by the UPL to explore hosting other fixtures at St. Mary’s Stadium, provided they can be part of doubleheaders.

Wakiso Giants had previously hosted Vipers at Kitende last season, where they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat.

The reasons behind Wakiso’s request to change the venue for this particular match remain unclear. However, the match will now proceed at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Thursday.

This decision upholds the tradition of maintaining home-ground advantage for Wakiso Giants while also offering them future flexibility for larger games.
