Vipers SC secured their second consecutive win under caretaker coach John Ayala Luyinda, defeating Wakiso Giants 2-0 on Thursday at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
The victory moves Vipers to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) standings, tied on 10 points with KCCA who have a game in hand.
Goals from Allan Okello and skipper Milton Karisa sealed the win, marking another positive result for Ayala, who took over as caretaker following the suspension of former head coach Nikola Kavazovic two weeks ago.
Ayala opted to maintain the same starting lineup for Vipers’ 2-1 victory over SC Villa on October 5 for today’s fixture, and his approach paid off as the Venoms continued their impressive form.
Allan Okello, fresh off international duty with the Uganda Cranes, opened the scoring in the 34th minute from the penalty spot after Wakiso goalkeeper James Alitho fouled Milton Karisa in the box.
Karisa would later double the lead in the 64th minute, capitalising on a defensive error by Wakiso’s Ambrose Arinda.
The Venoms will look to extend their winning streak when they host Police at Kitende on October 25, aiming to reclaim the UPL title from defending champions SC Villa.
Wakiso Giants on the other hand, currently 8th on the table with seven points, will face NEC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on October 23.
Meanwhile, KCCA, who level with Vipers at the top, are set to play UPDF on Saturday at Lugogo.
