On Friday, the Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, led a delegation from the National Council of Sports (NCS) for a meeting with UNHCR Country Representative, Mr. Matthew Crentsil, to discuss key areas of sports cooperation within refugee-hosting communities in Uganda.
The meeting aimed at strengthening collaborations to ensure that sports play a significant role in promoting inclusivity and integration for refugees.
Ogwang emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for fostering unity and development, particularly in areas hosting refugees.
“We are optimistic that this meeting and many others to come, will bear fruits as we strive to promote inclusiveness in sports,” Ogwang remarked after the meeting.
The delegation from the National Council of Sports included prominent figures such as Tashobya Ambrose, Chairperson of NCS, and Dr. Bernard Ogwel, Secretary General of NCS, among others.
The discussions focused on creating opportunities for refugees to participate in various sporting activities, aiming to improve social cohesion and provide positive avenues for engagement.
More meetings are expected to follow as both parties continue to explore practical ways to implement these initiatives.
