International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach met with a delegation of Ugandan Olympians and sporting leaders during a dinner held at Speke Resort Munyonyo on the evening of October 22, 2024.
The dinner, which was officiated by Moses Magero, Head of Communications at KCCA Football Club, brought together some of Uganda’s most celebrated athletes, spanning generations of Olympic history.
During the event, President Bach took the opportunity to personally hand out OLY Pins to Ugandan Olympians from 1972 to 2024.
The OLY Pin, a prestigious symbol of recognition, is awarded to Olympians worldwide to honor their achievements and contributions to the Olympic Movement.
Speaking at the dinner, President Bach expressed his admiration for Uganda’s rich sporting heritage and praised the Olympians for their dedication and commitment to excellence in their respective disciplines.
“These athletes have carried the Olympic spirit with them and continue to inspire new generations of competitors,” Bach remarked.
The dinner also provided an opportunity for Uganda’s sporting community to engage with the IOC President as he nears the end of his tenure.
The event was a significant moment for Ugandan sports, reinforcing the country’s growing influence on the global Olympic stage, particularly after recent medal successes in athletics.
This evening’s gathering was one of the key highlights of Bach’s two-day visit to Uganda, which has also included tree-planting at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Center and meetings with various sports and government leaders.
