Newly promoted StarTimes Uganda Premier League side Lugazi FC have appointed Steven Bogere as their new head coach.
The experienced tactician replaces Sadick Sempigi, who was dismissed last week and assistant coach Oliver Mbekeka who took charge of the club on interim basis after Sempigi’s sacking.
In the interim period, Oliver Mbekeka made history as the first woman to manage a UPL team and secured Lugazi’s first-ever UPL victory with a 1-0 win over Express FC earlier this week at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.
Lugazi confirmed Bogere’s appointment in a club statement issued this morning, announcing that he has signed a one-year contract and will assume his duties starting today, Friday, October 25, 2024.
“We are delighted to announce Mr. Steven Bogere as the club’s new head coach. His arrival is timely as the management continues to work towards improving the performance of the team,” read the statement.
Bogere brings a wealth of experience, having previously managed top clubs such as SC Villa, UPDF, Proline, and Onduparaka.
He was also recently in charge of Mawokota in the Buganda Masaza Cup, where he won two titles with Buddu.
During his playing days, Bogere was a key figure at SC Villa, Nile FC, and the Uganda Cranes, leading the national team to CECAFA Cup titles in 1989 and 1990.
Lugazi currently sit 13th in the UPL standings and will next face league leaders NEC at their home ground in Najjembe next Wednesday.
