Uganda’s Golf Squad Flagged Off for All-Africa Challenge

Uganda’s national golf team is poised to make a significant impact at the prestigious All-Africa Golf Team Championship, set to take place in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, from October 27th to November 2nd, 2024.

The biennial tournament, now in its 23rd year, is endorsed by the R&A and the Africa Golf Confederation and attracts top golfing nations from across the continent.

Uganda, alongside defending champions South Africa, Kenya, Malawi, Seychelles, Egypt, Tanzania, Morocco, Ghana, Zambia, and host nation Zimbabwe, will be vying for the coveted title.

Leading Uganda’s charge is captain Joseph Cwinya-ai, alongside the talented Joseph Reagan Akena, Ibrahim Ssemakula, and young rising star Elton Thembo.

The latter replaced Joseph Kasozi after a strong performance at the Africa Region IV tournament in Kigali.

Coach Flavia Namakula has been instrumental in preparing the team, particularly focusing on adapting to the dry conditions of the Bulawayo Golf Club course.

Cwinya-ai expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, drawing parallels to the dry conditions encountered during the Uganda Open.

The National Council of Sports Chairman, Ambrose Tashobya, officially flagged off the team, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting golf in Uganda.

He highlighted the team’s potential and the logistical support provided to ensure a successful campaign.

Tashobya also acknowledged the recent achievements of former national team golfer Ronald Rugumayo, whose success at the Muthaiga tournament has further elevated Uganda’s golfing reputation.
