End of the Road: Express Part Ways with Baker Mbowa

Express have parted ways with head coach Baker Mbowa following a series of underwhelming performances that have left fans and club management increasingly concerned about the Red Eagles’ season trajectory in the Uganda Premier League (UPL).

The decision to relieve Mbowa of his duties comes with Express currently in ninth place on the 16-team UPL table, having amassed just eight points from six games.

The club’s latest 1-0 loss to Lugazi at Hamz Stadium, where UPL’s first-ever female head coach led the opposition, marked the final straw for Mbowa’s tenure.

Mbowa, who was appointed in March 2023 to replace Alex Isabirye, had joined the seven-time UPL champions with hopes of restoring their winning form.

Previously at the helm of Bright Stars, Mbowa’s experience had sparked optimism. However, Express’ inconsistent performances this season fell short of expectations, leading to rising pressure.

Express’ management now faces a critical decision in appointing a new head coach capable of reshaping the team’s direction.

The Red Eagles will kick off the post-Mbowa era with a crucial away game against Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on October 31st.

This fixture will be pivotal as Express seek to regain momentum and reestablish their position in the UPL standings.
