FUFA Holds Security Meeting to Tackle Namboole Access Issues Before South Africa Clash

The FUFA Security Standing Committee convened a crucial meeting on Monday as part of the ongoing preparations for the Uganda Cranes’ AFCON 2025 qualifying match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, scheduled for November 15, 2024, at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The meeting addressed mounting concerns over stadium access issues that have led to overcrowding and stampedes, particularly around the Northern gate on recent match days.

In response to a recent warning from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which advised that unresolved access problems could result in Uganda’s remaining home qualifiers being held behind closed doors, the FUFA Security Committee gathered to strategize enhanced measures to manage fan flow and ensure safety.

During the meeting, the committee discussed various issues such as the ticketing and distribution of stewards around the stadium.

The committee also reviewed plans to educate fans on timely arrival and cooperation with stadium officials to reduce congestion and ease entry.

The meeting follows heightened attention on security after fans reported delays and overcrowding at the last home game.

The Uganda-South Africa game is expected to draw significant turnout as fans rally behind the Cranes, who need just one point to confirm AFCON 2025 qualification.
