In a spirited Uganda Premier League clash of new entrants, Police emerged victorious over Mbale Heroes with a 2-1 win at Kavumba on Wednesday, solidifying their position in the top four.
Veteran forward Ben Ocen gave Police the lead in the 23rd minute, setting the tone for a competitive match.
Despite a swift equalizer from Mbale’s Umar Kyebatala in the 49th minute, Police’s Isaac Ogwang found the net in the 85th minute, sealing the game with his fourth goal of the season.
This win marks a strong start for Police, who now sit fourth with 10 points from seven matches.
Mbale, however, remains winless under head coach Asaph Mwebaze, rooted in 15th place with four points, as they struggle to gain traction in the league.
Their next chance to climb out of the relegation zone comes in a home match against BUL on November 10.
Meanwhile, Police faces a challenging away game against NEC at Lugogo on November 5.
The result highlights contrasting fortunes for the two teams: Police’s steady rise and Mbale’s need for a turnaround to secure their place in the league.
