The Kenyan team emerged victorious in the inaugural Crossover I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series tournament held at Limuru Country Club on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Dubbed the “Migingo Skirmishes,” the one-day event saw over 200 amateur golfers from Uganda and Kenya compete for bragging rights. The Kenyan team ultimately secured the win with a total score of 399 points, narrowly edging out the Ugandan team’s 343 points.
The tournament was the brainchild of I&M Bank Regional CEO Kihara Mania, who, inspired by his experience at the Katogo Golf Series in Uganda, extended an invitation to bring the series to Kenya.
“I’m thrilled to welcome our Ugandan friends to Limuru Country Club,” Mania said. “This is a fantastic opportunity to foster friendship and friendly competition between our two golfing communities.”
I&M Bank Uganda CEO Robin Bairstow expressed his delight at the series’ expansion across borders, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and supporting community initiatives.
“The Katogo Golf Series has become a platform for unity and camaraderie,” Bairstow remarked. “We’re proud to be part of this growing movement.”
The tournament was marked by intense competition and camaraderie between the two teams. Kenyan golfer Silvester Kimani emerged as the overall winner, while Hagar Chege claimed the top spot in the ladies’ category.
The success of the “Migingo Skirmishes” has set the stage for future cross-border golfing events, with both teams eager to host the return leg in Uganda.
