The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has announced the departure of Uganda A to Kigali, Rwanda, to participate in the Emerging Nations T20 Series scheduled from November 19 to 29, 2024.
The series will feature intense competition against teams such as Rwanda XI, Rwanda A, and Zimbabwe Emerging, providing an opportunity to sharpen the skills of rising cricket stars.
Under the leadership of veteran cricketer Roger Mukasa, who will serve as captain, and Simon Ssesazi, the team comprises a mix of seasoned players and emerging under-19 talents.
This strategic blend aims to offer valuable international exposure to young players while allowing experienced members to refine their form.
Team Manager and UCA Selector Richard Okia emphasized the importance of this tournament in building a high-performance culture within Ugandan cricket.
“This series aligns perfectly with our mission to build a high-performance culture and deepen the pathways from grassroots cricket to the senior national team,” Okia noted. “It offers players invaluable exposure to international-level competition, allowing us to identify future stars and build squad depth for Uganda Cricket’s long-term success.”
Davis Turinawe, the Head Coach for this tour, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the dual benefit of nurturing emerging talents and providing experienced players with competitive challenges.
“Competing against teams like Zimbabwe Emerging and Rwanda’s best will push our players to new heights and simulate the demands of senior international cricket,” Turinawe added.
Uganda A will begin their campaign on November 21, facing Rwanda XI at 9:30 AM. The packed schedule includes matches against Zimbabwe Emerging and Rwanda A, culminating in the final and third-place playoff on November 29. All games will be held at the Gahanga B Oval.
