The Victoria Sharks, Victoria University’s rugby team have unveiled new kits ahead of the new rugby season.
Just two short years after their inception, the team secured a coveted spot in the Rugby Premier League, Uganda’s top-tier rugby competition.
The Sharks’ journey to the top flight is nothing short of extraordinary. From their dominant performance in the Varsity Sevens to their recent triumph in the Central Regional League and Championship, the team has consistently exceeded expectations.
Isaac Lutwama Nsubuga, CEO of the Uganda Rugby Union, praised the Sharks’ rapid ascent.
“In just two years, this team has shown incredible dedication to excellence. Their rise from the Varsity Sevens to the Premier League is a testament to their commitment. We look forward to seeing them compete at the highest level,” he said.
Victoria University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements, particularly their undefeated streak in the University Sevens.
“This has been an incredible journey, and this team has truly lived up to the high expectations we’ve worked so hard to achieve,” he said.
The Sharks’ story began when Sebuliba Patrick, the team’s chairman, recognized the potential of a group of talented but financially disadvantaged students.
Victoria University stepped in to provide rugby scholarships to 13 promising players, laying the foundation for the team’s success.
