Manchester United and Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has been honored with the Player Impact Award by the international players’ union, FIFPRO, in recognition of his charitable efforts.
Through the Andre Onana Foundation, he provides free medical care and surgeries to underprivileged children and adults in Cameroon and other parts of sub-Saharan Africa.
Over the past three years, the foundation has facilitated more than 1,200 surgeries.
Onana, 28, expressed his sense of duty, saying, “I felt a responsibility to give back and help others.”
Reflecting on his journey through clubs like Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Milan before joining Manchester United, he added, “When I passed through Barcelona, Amsterdam and Milan on my way to Manchester United, I had people who helped me on that journey. When I was down, they gave me a hand so that I could stand up. I’ve never forgotten the help I received.”
