MTN Uganda Boosts Inaugural Gulu City Marathon with UGX 20 Million Sponsorship

MTN Uganda, the leading telecoms company in the country, has solidified its commitment to community development and cultural preservation by pledging UGX 20 million towards the inaugural Gulu City Marathon.

The contribution was announced during a ceremony held at Jaca Gardens in Gulu City. Denis Harindimana, MTN Uganda’s Northern Region Marketing Coordinator, presented the sponsorship to representatives of the Great North Run Company, the marathon’s organizers.

Speaking at the event, Harindimana emphasized MTN Uganda’s dedication to initiatives that empower communities and celebrate cultural heritage.

He stated, “MTN believes in the power of unity. The Gulu City Marathon perfectly embodies this spirit, bringing together people from all backgrounds to celebrate culture, promote tourism, and support education in the region. We are honored to partner with the Great North Run Company in this endeavor and anticipate the transformative impact this event will have on Gulu and beyond.”

The Gulu City Marathon aims to showcase the city’s rich culture and historical significance while raising funds for the Dero Kwan Initiative, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting education in Northern Uganda.

Participants can choose from four distances – 5km, 10km, 21km, and the full 42km marathon – which will wind through key landmarks like the Gulu War Memorial and the Gulu City Main Market.

Fionah Latiga Lamaro, a representative from the Great North Run Company, expressed her appreciation for MTN Uganda’s generous support.

“We are incredibly grateful to MTN Uganda for becoming a major sponsor of this inaugural event. Their contribution significantly bolsters our efforts to ensure the marathon’s success, not only in celebrating our heritage but also in creating educational opportunities for the region. We are proud to have MTN as a partner in this journey,” she said.

As part of the sponsorship, MTN Uganda has secured an exclusive offer for participants purchasing marathon kits.

Originally priced at UGX 60,000, the kits can be purchased via MTN MoMo Merchant Code 735488 for a discounted price of UGX 30,000.

This 50% discount applies only to the first 100 customers who pay using MTN MoMo.
