Ugandan Forward Advances to CAF Confederation Cup Quarterfinals

Uganda Cranes forward Steven Mukwala is set to grace the knockout stages of the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup after his side, Simba, booked their spot in the quarterfinals with a game to spare.

Simba, a powerhouse in Tanzanian football, currently sits second in Group A with 10 points, just two shy of Algerian giants Constantine, who lead with 12 points.

With three wins, one draw, and a single defeat in five games, Simba has shown class and resilience throughout the group stage campaign.

Their latest outing, a gritty 1-1 draw away to Bravo do Maquis in Angola, ensured their progression to the last eight.

Simba’s solid form, highlighted by dominant performances both at home and on the road, has marked them as one of the favorites in this year’s competition.

The final group stage fixture on January 19 promises fireworks as Simba welcomes table-toppers Constantine to the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The match is shaping up to be a battle for Group A supremacy, with the Tanzanian side looking to use their home advantage to leapfrog their North African rivals.

Mukwala, who missed the draw against Bravo do Maquis, has been part of Simba’s campaign, featuring in four group matches.

With the quarterfinals in sight, Mukwala’s Simba will aim to carry its form and hunger for glory into the knockout rounds as they chase continental silverware.

The journey to the crown is heating up, and Simba’s roar is getting louder.
