KCCA to Challenge FUFA Ruling Over Ineligible Player Dispute

KCCA Football Club have expressed dissatisfaction with the FUFA Disciplinary Panel’s decision to award Mbarara City a 3-0 victory by forfeiture after KCCA was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Gavin Kizito Mugweri, during their January 7 Uganda Premier League match.

In a brief statement, the club confirmed receipt of the ruling and indicated that their legal team is reviewing the decision.

“Our Legal Team is studying the ruling and evaluating our next course of action,” the statement read.

The controversy arose when Mbarara City filed a petition alleging that Kizito Mugweri, who had accumulated three yellow cards in prior matches, was ineligible to play in the fixture at Kakyeka Stadium.

Despite this, he was included in KCCA’s lineup and played the full 90 minutes in their 2-0 victory.

The FUFA Disciplinary Panel ruled in favor of Mbarara City, citing a violation of Article 26, Subsection 9 of the FUFA Competitions Rules.

This decision resulted in Mbarara City being awarded three points and three goals, while KCCA forfeited their win.

KCCA’s dissatisfaction with the ruling raises the possibility of an appeal or other legal action.

While the club has not explicitly outlined its next steps, the involvement of their legal team suggests they may seek to challenge the decision through FUFA’s established appeals process.

The ruling means KCCA drops below Express in the Uganda Premier League standings to 4th place.
