The Uganda Rugby Premiership’s newest entrants, Victoria Sharks, are gearing up for their second game of the season as they host the Jinja Hippos this Saturday, January 18, at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.
Both sides come into this showdown off the back of winning starts to the 2025 Nile Special Rugby Premiership.
Victoria Sharks, playing their inaugural season in Uganda’s top flight, announced their arrival with a hard-fought 22-16 victory over Kampani’s Eagles in the opening round.
Despite being pushed to the limit by the resilient Eagles, the Sharks showed composure to secure their first win.
Key contributions came from Daniel Kateregga, who opened the scoring with an early penalty, and Davis Kyewalabye and Daniel Ebau, who scored crucial second-half tries to clinch the victory.
However, missed opportunities off the kicking tee nearly proved costly, with the Sharks converting only one out of five attempts.
The Jinja Hippos, on the other hand, began their campaign in style, defeating Toyota Buffaloes 30-24 in a thrilling encounter.
Their attacking prowess and ability to capitalize on key moments were evident, as they navigated a competitive clash to secure maximum points.
With both teams riding high on confidence, Saturday’s clash promises fireworks.
The Sharks will look to build on their gritty performance and prove that they belong in the Premiership, while the Hippos aim to extend their strong start and assert their status as a force to reckon with this season.
Fans can catch the action live at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds with free entry to the game, which kicks off at 4 PM.
For those unable to attend, the match will be broadcast live on NBS Sport and streamed via the Afromobile app.
