FUFA Strips KCCA of Points, Suspends Referee Over Rule Violations

KCCA have officially lodged an appeal against the FUFA Disciplinary Panel’s decision to award Mbarara City FC a 3-0 victory by forfeiture.

This follows a rulling that KCCA fielded an ineligible player, Gavin Kizito Mugweri, during their Uganda Premier League (UPL) match on January 7, 2025.

In a statement released by the club, KCCA reaffirmed its commitment to fair play and adherence to competition rules.

“Following the recent decision from the FUFA Disciplinary Panel regarding the match against Mbarara City FC, KCCA FC has formally lodged an appeal. We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of all rules, sportsmanship, and fair play,” the statement read.

The controversy began when Mbarara City filed a petition after KCCA fielded Kizito Mugweri, who had reportedly accumulated three yellow cards in prior league matches, making him ineligible for the fixture at Kakyeka Stadium.

Kizito played the full 90 minutes as KCCA secured a 2-0 win, with goals from Emmanuel Anyama and Etienne Katenga.

However, the FUFA Disciplinary Panel ruled that Kizito was indeed ineligible, citing Article 26, Subsection 9 of the FUFA Competitions Rules, which states that players who accumulate three yellow cards must serve a one-match suspension.

As a result, the match was forfeited, and Mbarara City was awarded three points and three goals.

Additionally, the FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel suspended referee William Oloya for six months for failing to include Kizito’s yellow card in his match report.

The FUFA Appeals Committee will now review KCCA’s submission with the timeline for a final decision remaining unclear.
