Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Diogo Jota will be sidelined for several weeks due to a muscle injury.
The Portuguese forward, who recently returned from a previous injury, suffered a setback after scoring off the bench in their Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest.
Slot revealed in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Champions League clash with Lille that Jota will be out for “weeks, not months,” and that his recovery will depend on the final stages of rehabilitation.
“He overloaded a certain muscle a bit,” Slot explained regarding the nature of the injury.
This news comes as a blow to Liverpool, who are already without Joe Gomez due to injury.
Slot emphasized that while the exact timeframe for Jota’s return is uncertain, both players are expected to be back with the team within the coming weeks.
With Jota sidelined, manager Slot confirmed that Darwin Nunez will likely see increased playing time.
Nunez recently scored two crucial stoppage-time goals against Brentford and has been a key player for Liverpool this season.
Slot highlighted that Nunez has previously thrived in situations where he has had extended periods of consistent playing time.
