The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has announced an upcoming U15 Basketball Tournament, exclusively designed for its affiliated academies.
Scheduled to run from January 31 to February 1 at Mengo Secondary School, the competition will bring together boys’ and girls’ teams in a showcase of youthful talent, sportsmanship, and skill development.
The tournament serves as a strategic effort by FUBA to nurture young basketball players, offering them a platform to gain competitive experience while also scouting potential future stars for Uganda’s national teams.
According to Ayebare Patricia, FUBA’s Youth and Mini Basketball Commissioner, the initiative is pivotal for grassroots basketball in Uganda.
“This tournament is crucial for the development of youth basketball in Uganda,” she remarked in an interview with NBS Sport.
“It provides a valuable opportunity for young players to gain competitive experience, improve their skills, and develop a love for the game,” she added.
Participating teams will begin with a round-robin format during the group stages, ensuring each team has multiple opportunities to compete and grow.
The results from the group stages will determine the progression to subsequent rounds. The event will be conducted under FUBA Mini Basketball and Academy rules, providing a structured and fair environment for the young athletes.
FUBA anticipates participation from at least 12 academies and has set a registration fee of 300,000 UGX per academy with 150,000 UGX the price for the boys and girls teams, respectively.
Payment can be made via mobile money or in cash at the FUBA Secretariat.
To facilitate smooth planning and organization, the registration and payment deadline has been set for January 27, 2025.
The registration fees will cover various organizational expenses, including venue rental, officiating costs, equipment provision, and administrative needs.
The registration fee will also fund prizes and awards for the tournament’s top teams and standout players, ensuring a rewarding experience for participants.
