In a bid to foster golf competition and champion environmental sustainability, the inaugural Pearl of Africa series is set for next month.
The three-leg series will be played at Uganda Golf Club, Entebbe and Lugazi courses with prize money for amateur and professional golfers.
Over fifty professional and hundreds of amateur male and female golfers will compete in the first edition set for 5-8 February at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.
Chairman Dr Edward Nyatia reflected on the tournament, “Our objective is to promote golf. We have a lot of talent who have not penetrated the big stage and we believe such series will ensure they position themselves to compete.”
Uganda Golf Union trustee Hon Dickson Kateshumbwa says the competition will offer a platform for players.
“The pros will have a platform to ensure competition when the POA series gets underway. Such tournaments inspire players to go pro. These series encourage young people to step up.”
The Pearl Of Africa Golf Series will be an annual tournament focused on the sustainable development of the sport.
