Manchester United is facing another wave of job cuts as part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS continue their efforts to streamline the club’s operations and improve its financial standing.

As many as 200 employees are reportedly facing redundancy, according to a BBC Sport report, just months after the ownership group oversaw 250 layoffs. A final decision on the latest round of cuts is expected within the next two weeks.

This news comes as INEOS has already made several controversial decisions aimed at reducing costs, including the termination of Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorship.

The moves have sparked concern among fans and staff, but Ratcliffe has defended the actions, stating that the club is “still in the last century” in terms of its operational efficiency and that more difficult decisions would be necessary.

The rationale behind the latest proposed redundancies is primarily financial. Manchester United has reported losses of approximately £300 million ($373m) over the past three years.

INEOS believes that shedding between 100 and 200 jobs could save the club around £45 million ($56m) annually.

This money, according to sources, could be reinvested into the first team squad, managed by Ruben Amorim, as the club aims to reclaim its position at the top of English and European football.

In addition to the job cuts, the club is also considering closing its London office, although it will maintain a presence in the capital to facilitate business with its global partners.

The potential closure of the London office is another indication of INEOS’s commitment to consolidating operations and reducing overhead.

The ongoing cost-cutting measures have created an atmosphere of uncertainty at Old Trafford.

While Ratcliffe’s ambition to restore Manchester United to its former glory is clear, the methods he is employing have raised questions about the human cost of his strategy.

The impact of these redundancies on the affected employees and their families remains a significant concern.

The timing of these potential layoffs coincides with Manchester United’s preparations for a crucial Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

While the team focuses on the upcoming fixture, the off-field developments are likely to weigh heavily on the minds of many within the club.

The next few weeks will be critical as the club makes a final decision on the proposed redundancies.
