ICC CWC Challenge League B: Uganda’s Unbeaten Run Extends with Dominant Victory Over Singapore

Uganda and Hong Kong are set to clash in a decisive encounter in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B, with both teams looking to assert dominance in their third meeting of the year.

With each side having secured one win apiece in their previous encounters, Uganda captain Riazat Ali Shah has labeled this game as the “series decider and finale.”

“This will be our third meeting this year, and we have each won one game apiece. This will be a series decider and finale. We will look at the playing surface and execute. The toss will be key,” Shah noted ahead of the match.

The Cricket Cranes head into this fixture after their clash with Italy was abandoned due to rain, earning them a point that keeps them atop the standings with 14 points.

Head coach Abhay Sharma and his staff are considering strategic adjustments, including possibly handing veteran spinner Frank Nsubuga his tournament debut to counter Hong Kong’s strong left-handed batting core.

Hong Kong, currently level with Italy on 12 points, will be looking to make a strong statement.

On-form players such as Anshuman Rath, Babar Hayat, captain Yasim Murtaza, Nizakat Khan, and tournament centurion Martin Coetzee pose significant threats that Uganda must contain.

Assistant coach Jackson Ogwang remains focused on the bigger picture despite the Italy washout.

“Unfortunately, we cannot control things like the weather. We will take the point from the Italy game and forge forward. We have now entered into the business end and have to make hay,” Ogwang stated.

With their head-to-head record in the last five matches standing at two wins apiece and one shared result, this matchup is set to be a thrilling contest with crucial tournament implications.

The Cricket Cranes will need a disciplined approach with both bat and ball to keep their unbeaten run intact and tighten their grip at the top of the table.
