Defending Champions Lango Eye Another Title as FUFA Drum Resumes

The FUFA Drum tournament is set to resume later this month for its fifth edition, continuing its tradition of celebrating Uganda’s cultural diversity through football.

The competition, which has grown in prominence since its inception, will see teams from different regions battle for glory as they represent their cultural heritage.

Defending champions Lango Province, who clinched the title last year after beating Busoga in the finals, will be looking to maintain their dominance.

With a series of qualifying rounds already completed, the tournament will kick off its next phase on Saturday, February 22, with key matchups set to take place across the country.

Bunyoro Province will take on Rwenzori Province at Kigaya Primary School, while Kampala Province will host Bukedi Province at Yes Center in Kampala.

The action continues on Sunday, February 23, when Ankole Province faces Sebei Province at Kakyeka Stadium, promising another thrilling contest.

Speaking at a press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo, Rogers Byamukama, chairperson of the organizing committee, urged Ugandans to support their teams, emphasizing the tournament’s role in uniting communities and promoting local football talent.

Teams that emerge victorious from these matches will secure their place alongside already-qualified provinces, including Buganda, Lango, West Nile, Busoga, Kigezi, Teso, Tooro, and Acholi.

The FUFA Drum has seen different regions claim the title in previous editions, with Buganda winning the inaugural tournament, followed by Acholi and West Nile before Lango’s triumph last year.

Beyond football, the FUFA Drum remains a festival of culture and identity, bringing communities together in a shared passion for the game.
