Uganda’s top female golfer, Peace Kabasweka, has added another feather to her cap after emerging as the best lady golfer at the Kigali Golf Club tournament in Rwanda.
The soft-spoken but immensely talented golfer from Fort Portal has been on a demanding schedule in recent weeks, but she believes the rigorous competitions will prepare her well for an eventful 2025 season.
Earlier this month, Kabasweka competed at the prestigious Leopard Creek Golf Club in South Africa, where she finished 16th with rounds of 86, 82, and 80, totaling 248.
The challenging conditions, including self-caddying under the scorching sun, tested her endurance, but she remains proud of her performance. Her score was equaled by Tanzania’s Iddy Hussein Madina, marking a respectable finish in the tough field.
However, it was in Kigali where Kabasweka truly stamped her authority. Competing over four days in a mixed-gender field, she showcased her consistency and resilience to claim the best lady golfer title with a gross total of 321.
Reflecting on her performance, the 2023 Uganda Open champion credited her success to hard work and perseverance.
“I am not yet the finished article,” she admitted. “But I am all the same happy, very happy, because this is a reward for the hard work I put in every day.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Kabasweka has set her sights on key world amateur ranking events. Ranked 209 globally, she is determined to make significant strides.
“I have a series of world amateur golf ranking events coming up, and I want to really do well in those particular ones,” she stated. Among her major targets are the Entebbe Ladies Open, the Kenya Ladies Golf Union tournament, and the Uganda Ladies Golf Open.
One of her biggest motivators for the upcoming season is the Uganda Ladies Open, set to take place at Lugazi Golf Hills and Country Club in August.
Having missed the opportunity to defend her title in 2024 due to family obligations—her parents’ 50th wedding anniversary—Kabasweka is eager to reclaim the crown that was won by Madina at Entebbe.
