The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has released the registration guidelines and roadmap for the 2025 Secondary Schools Sports Championships.
In a directive issued by the Ministry of Education and Sports, schools have been urged to complete the online registration of participants in accordance with the official sports calendar, which began in January 2025.
According to the directive all participating students must be registered online, with a registration fee set at UGX 3,000 per student for the entire 2025 calendar year.
The ministry has emphasized that only registered players will be allowed to compete at all levels of the championships to minimize disputes and ensure fair competition.
Relatedly, USSSA has released the roadmap for the National Secondary School Football Boys Championship and National Ball Games 1, with key deadlines in place.
Online registration and student transfers will close on Friday, March 7, 2025, while district qualifiers will run from March 7 to March 23, 2025.
Schools must verify players for zonal qualifiers between March 24 and March 30, before the zonal competitions take place from April 1 to April 20.
The verification process for national qualifiers is scheduled for April 21 to April 30, with national championship payments closing on April 27.
The final replacements for national qualifiers must be completed by April 30, while the official launch and draws for the championships will be held between May 4 and May 15. The national championships will follow soon after.
A key directive from the ministry states that any student not enrolled by their school before March 7, 2025, will be considered a free agent, meaning they can be recruited by any school.
The Ministry of Education and Sports, in collaboration with USSSA, has urged all schools to adhere to the outlined timelines to ensure smooth planning and execution of the championships.
