Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) President Nasser Sserunjogi has clarified that the postponement of the National Basketball League (NBL) season to March 21st was necessary to finalize key preparations following a major shift in league management.
Sserunjogi explained that the delay allows for a smoother transition as club managers take over the operational control of the league under the newly formed NBL Management Committee.
The change, which hands clubs more decision-making power, required additional time to ensure structures were in place before tip-off.
“We wanted to make sure everything is in place before the start of the season to avoid any problems,” Sserunjogi said during an interview on NBS Sport.
“This transition is a big step, and we need to ensure that clubs are fully prepared for their new responsibilities.”
Under the new structure, club managers will oversee referee payments and daily league operations, previously handled by FUBA.
Sserunjogi emphasized that this move is meant to enhance transparency and give clubs a more active role in shaping the league’s future.
The newly formed NBL Management Committee will be led by Chairperson Fredricks Owora, General Secretary Samuel David Lukaire, and Head of Finance Gordon Gumisiriza.
This leadership team will be responsible for implementing the new management model and ensuring a seamless transition.
