UPL Preview: URA Seek Redemption Against In-Form UPDF

URA will be desperate to return to winning ways when they host UPDF in a Uganda Premier League encounter at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday night.

The Tax Collectors suffered a 1-0 setback against Kitara in their previous match, a result that left them in sixth place with 27 points.

However, a victory against UPDF would propel them to fourth, overtaking Kitara, who were beaten by BUL on Thursday.

Historically, URA have dominated this fixture, remaining unbeaten in their last eight encounters against UPDF.

The Tax Collectors have also been rock solid at home, winning their last three matches at Nakivubo without conceding a goal.

URA midfielder Ibrahim Wamannah is confident his side will bounce back.

“We have worked on our mistakes, and I believe we can get the three points,” he said. “We need to respond with a win and get back to winning ways.”

However, UPDF head into this clash full of confidence after their stunning 2-0 victory over defending champions SC Villa.

Paul Kiwanuka’s men are on a two-game winning streak and could leapfrog URA with another three points.

Their challenge, though, will be overcoming a dismal record at Nakivubo, where they have failed to score in their last three visits.

UPDF will also be without key players Edward Kawooya, Samuel Ssekamatte, and Emmanuel Ochen, while Shakib Mayanja and Nsubuga Abasi Luuty remain sidelined.

URA will also be missing Denis Kisiriko, while James Begesa remains a doubt with a leg injury. Emmanuel Okech is back but might not be fit enough to feature.

With both teams eager to secure maximum points, an exciting contest, starting at 7pm, is expected at Nakivubo.

URA will be hoping to use their home advantage to bounce back, while UPDF aim to defy history and continue their rise up the table.
