Mason Mount could make his long-awaited return for Manchester United this Sunday as the team faces Leicester City in a crucial Premier League clash.
United manager Ruben Amorim confirmed that the 26-year-old midfielder, who has been sidelined since December with a hamstring injury, may feature from the bench.
“We need players like Mason Mount. I think he will be on the bench, we will see,” Amorim stated during a press conference on Friday. “He cannot play too many minutes, but just five minutes of Mason Mount is perfect.”
Mount, who joined United from Chelsea for £55 million in 2023, has endured an injury-hit campaign but has returned to training earlier this week. Amorim expressed full confidence in the England international, emphasizing his commitment and work ethic despite the challenges.
“I really love Mason Mount. He does everything right—he eats right, his physical aspect is perfect. He’s trying too much, maybe overthinking everything. But he’s a talent, and he has our full support,” Amorim added.
Manchester United will be looking to build on their impressive Europa League victory against Real Sociedad, where Bruno Fernandes’ hat-trick sealed their place in the quarterfinals.
Amorim hailed the team’s recent performances as signs of progress, highlighting their improved understanding of game strategies and mental resilience.
As United currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, Amorim urged his players to focus on each game individually, rather than dwelling on their position.
“We have to be humble and forget the table. We need to face Leicester like we faced Real Sociedad and aim to improve our position. The most important thing is continuing to win and grow as a team,” he said.
