The Namuwongo Blazers maintained their unbeaten run in the National Basketball League with a dominant 83-57 victory over fellow early-season contenders JT Jaguars on Friday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
In a clash that had been billed as a showdown between two of the league’s hottest teams, it was the Blazers who rose to the occasion, producing a commanding performance on both ends of the court to hand the Jaguars their first defeat of the season.
Moses Mugisha was instrumental in the win, contributing 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists in a well-rounded display.
Paul Odong added to the highlight reel with a timely three-pointer in the final quarter that helped seal the result and deflate any hopes of a Jaguars comeback.
The Blazers imposed their physicality and pace throughout the contest, dominating the rebounding battle with 55 boards compared to the Jaguars’ 38.
They also moved the ball with precision, racking up 26 assists to the Jaguars’ 9, a clear indicator of their superior teamwork and execution.
Despite a valiant effort from Mark Were—who led the Jaguars with 21 points—the team struggled to find rhythm offensively, managing just 30 percent shooting from the field.
In contrast, the Blazers shot at 44 percent and recorded four blocks to the Jaguars’ two, underlining their defensive intensity.
The win improves the Namuwongo Blazers’ record to 4-0, reinforcing their status as early favourites in the title race.
