The Uganda junior golf team is aiming for a place at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup as they compete in the 2025 All-Africa Junior Team Championship.
The tournament, scheduled for April 24–27 in Tunis, Tunisia, will feature 14 countries. The top two teams will qualify for the prestigious global event.
Uganda’s squad includes four boys and three girls: Anthony Otukei, Peter Mayende, Shaka Kariisa, John Paul Rugumambaju, Elizabeth Danielle Kawalya, Rachael Laura Natukunda, and Keisha Kagoro. This marks the national team’s third appearance at the continental championship, with a key focus on talent development and discovery.
Speaking during the official flag-off ceremony presided over by National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, Uganda Golf Union President Dr. Jackson Were emphasized the importance of the tournament.
“This is an opportunity to showcase talent in Tunisia, especially after delivering the Victoria Cup. It’s an event where countries present their best players under 18 years of age,” said Dr. Were.
Head coach Flavia Namakula expressed confidence in the team’s preparation.
“We had a high-performance training program in Lugazi two weeks ago with coaches from South Africa, which gave the players valuable exposure and improved their skills,” Namakula said.
South Africa enters the tournament as favorites, but Uganda is determined to challenge for one of the two available World Cup slots.
