Uganda Cranes Forward Steven Mukwala will carry the hopes of Simba when the Tanzanian giants face South Africa’s Stellenbosch in the semi-finals of the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The Uganda Cranes forward has emerged as a key figure in Simba’s quest for continental success, with his recent form suggesting he could be the difference-maker in their bid to reach the final.
Mukwala was instrumental in Simba’s dramatic quarter-final turnaround against Egypt’s Al Masry.
With the team trailing 2-0 from the first leg, the forward struck a crucial equaliser in the return leg in Dar es Salaam, helping force a penalty shootout that Simba went on to win 4-1.
Now, as Simba prepare to face a confident and fearless Stellenbosch side, Mukwala’s attacking instincts and experience will be vital.
His partnership with Elie Mpanzu has added a potent edge to Simba’s frontline, and the duo will be tasked with breaking down a disciplined Stellies defence that recently stunned defending champions Zamalek in Cairo.
Mukwala’s physical presence, pace, and aerial ability will be key assets against a Stellenbosch side that thrives on structure and compact defending.
His ability to drag defenders out of position and exploit space will be crucial if Simba are to unlock the South Africans and push for a first-ever CAF Confederation Cup final appearance.
While Stellenbosch arrive with the exuberance of a debut campaign and the momentum of a historic win, Simba bring experience and a deep hunger for continental silverware.
Under the guidance of South African coach Fadlu Davids, the Tanzanian club will look to dominate possession and impose their attacking rhythm — with Mukwala expected to spearhead the charge.
The first leg will be played on Sunday, April 20th at 4 PM, EAT.
