Sudi Ulanga, the coach of the JT Jaguars cannot wait to see his women’s side return to action tonight, when they face the UCU Lady Canons at the Lugogo indoor stadium.
Following their 67-68 loss to the KCCA Leopards at the same venue last Friday, 18th April, Ulanga believes strongly that a quick return to action will help them erase their first season loss out of their minds.
The Jaguars, who boast of four wins and one loss this season were subjected to a shocking result, considering how dominant they had been thus far.
Having beaten the defending champions, JKL Lady Dolphins on match-day one, questions on whether any other women’s side could stop them lingered.
But now that their unbeaten run was stopped, the JT Jaguars are eager to go again, although that is after they reflected on why it all went wrong against KCCA Leopards.
Ulanga said: “We were quite heavy to move on court last Friday. KCCA took advantage of that and punished us for our lack of athleticism and application.”
However, this was not out of the blue. According to Ulanga, they made a miscalculation in the build-up to that game.
He said: “We normally have a training programme, where the team goes to the gym at least every after four games, which we did. But then, that is also done in consideration of how many days are between the gym work-out and your next game, which we got all wrong.”
As a result of that, Ulanga noted that they got to play KCCA before the ladies’ bodies had recovered from the gym work-out rigours.
Most of them played with body pain in the arms and legs, which restricted their movement, but at the same time, their ability to shoot.
Incidentally, because of their struggles in that game, the Jaguars committed 20 turn-overs from which KCCA pounced to register 19 points.
In the end, the Jaguars lost by one point. It is a result that was a disappointing one for the Jaguars, and therefore cannot wait to get back on court, to make amends, although it goes without saying that UCU Lady Canons, is no easy pickings.
