Jamie Vardy, Leicester City’s record Premier League scorer, will leave the club at the end of the season after 13 memorable years.
The 38-year-old striker, who joined in 2012, is hailed by the Foxes as their “greatest ever player,” having scored 143 Premier League goals and 198 in all competitions.
A key figure in their historic 2015-16 Premier League title win and the 2021 FA Cup victory, Vardy expressed his sadness at leaving but stated his desire to continue playing.
“I’ve spent 13 unbelievable years at this club… Leicester will always, always have a massive place in my heart,” he said.
Despite Leicester’s recent relegation, Vardy emphasized, “This isn’t retirement. I want to keep on playing.”
Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy praised Vardy’s loyalty and honesty. Vardy, who captained the side to Championship promotion last season, described the current season as “miserable.”
Vardy’s final home game is on May 18th against Ipswich. His Leicester legacy includes a Premier League Player of the Season award and a Golden Boot.
