Maroons Hope to Arrest Vipers’ Title Ambitions

All eyes in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) will be fixed on Luzira Prison’s ground this afternoon as league leaders Vipers lock horns with Maroons in a highly anticipated matchday 25 encounter. The game is slated to kick off at 4:00 PM local time.

The Venoms arrive in buoyant mood, sitting comfortably at the summit of the 2024/2025 UPL table.

With an impressive tally of 56 points from 24 matches, they boast a five-point cushion over their closest rivals, NEC, who have 51 points. Vipers’ stellar season has seen them register 17 victories, five draws, and only two defeats.

In contrast, Maroons find themselves in the lower half of the league standings, currently occupying the 8th position with 34 points from their 24 outings.

While settled in mid-table, they will be aiming to cause an upset against the formidable league leaders on their home turf.

The history books favor Vipers heading into this clash. When the two sides met earlier this season on January 6th, 2025, Vipers emerged victorious with a slender 1-0 win, courtesy of an 18th-minute strike from Moses Waiswa.

Vipers’ recent form further solidifies their status as favorites. They are currently enjoying a four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions.

Their most recent outing saw them secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory against SC Villa in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter-finals, propelling them into the semi-final stage.

Maroons, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from a recent setback. Their last league fixture ended in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of UPDF, leaving them eager to secure a positive result in front of their home supporters.

The head-to-head record between the two teams paints a dominant picture for Vipers. The reigning champions are unbeaten in their last ten encounters against Maroons, having netted an impressive 19 goals during that period.

However, Maroons will take some solace in the fact that Vipers’ last victory at Luzira was back in November 2019, when they secured a 3-0 win.
