64 Teams to Compete in National Schools Football Finals in Ngora

Preparations are in full swing for the 2025 National Boys’ Football Championship, which will be hosted by Ngora High School in Ngora District from May 5 to May 15.

A preparatory meeting held at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) offices in Old Kampala confirmed that 64 teams from 19 USSSA zones have qualified for the prestigious tournament.

The defending champions, St. Julian High School Seeta from Mukono Zone, will be among the contenders vying for top honors at Uganda’s premier secondary school football competition.

During the preparatory meeting, USSSA President Justus Mugisha commended the schools for qualifying.

“First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you upon qualifying because we know it is not easy to qualify for nationals,” he said. Mugisha noted an increase in participation and improved organization at the zonal level across the country.

The draw for the tournament is scheduled for April 29, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the USSSA Offices at GNS Plaza, Old Kampala.

Twelve match venues and seven training grounds have been confirmed, with Ngora High School alone providing four pitches. Other key venues include Kumi University and St. Aloysius Institute, each contributing two pitches. The farthest venue is Kumi University, located eight kilometers from the host school.

Training pitches will be situated at Ngora Town Council, Kumi University, Aloysius Institute, Tilling Primary School, Koile Primary School, Nyamongo Primary School, and Agu Primary School.

USSSA Executive Committee Member Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi urged games teachers to remain actively involved throughout the tournament.

“Games teachers must be present throughout the championship and not leave their work to coaches,” Khalifa emphasized. He also encouraged attendance at the daily evaluation meetings.

The schools qualified per zone include major institutions such as St. Mary’s SS Kitende (Wakiso), Kawempe Muslim SS (Kampala), Masaka SS (Masaka), and Amus College School (Teso), among others.

In a significant logistical boost, all participating teams will receive two sets of jerseys—home and away—in their respective school colors. The initiative is being handled by Graphic Systems.

“We will provide two sets of jerseys to each team at the upcoming Nationals,” Mugisha confirmed. Trushar Upadhyay, General Manager of Graphic Systems, assured schools of timely and quality jersey deliveries.

With the preparations now underway, all eyes turn to Ngora for what promises to be the largest and most competitive edition of the National Boys’ Football Championship in Uganda.
