More than 300 netballers from 20 clans took part in the Bika Netball Tournament held yesterday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as part of the 70th birthday celebrations of Kabaka Ronald Muwanga Mutebi II.
The two-day gala, graced by Buganda Minister for Youth, Sports, and Arts, Owek. Robert Serwanga, featured 20 teams divided into four groups, with reigning champions Nyonyi Nyange among the participants.
Owek. Serwanga said the tournament is crucial for talent identification and underlines Buganda Kingdom’s commitment to sports development.
He added that the event also serves as a platform for scouting players for the national U21 netball team, the She Pearls.
Participants emphasized that the tournament not only fosters talent growth but also strengthens cultural identity.
The competition will conclude with the final match played alongside the Bika football final.
