A three-day CECAFA Media Officers’ Workshop, aimed at enhancing the professionalism and capacity of media officers in East and Central Africa, kicked off in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 28, 2025.
Hosted at the Swiss Lenana Mount Hotel, the workshop brings together 23 participants from 11 CECAFA member associations, with experts from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) leading the sessions.
FUFA Communications Officer, Stephen Mayamba, and Phidaus Nakaweesi, the FUFA Media Services Digital Manager, are in Nairobi, Kenya, for a three-day CECAFA Media Officers’ Workshop.
Alongside the FUFA staff members, Wasike Abdu, the Head of Communications at Vipers, is also attending the workshop as the third participant representing Uganda.
The training aims to enhance the skills and professionalism of media officers, aligning with FUFA’s goal of becoming the number one footballing nation in Africa—both on and off the pitch.
The opening ceremony of the workshop was graced by Hussein Mohammed, the President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), who emphasized the importance of such initiatives for the growth and professionalism of football in the region.
He also highlighted the significance of the workshop as the region prepares to host major events such as the CHAN tournament and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
Lux September, the Acting Director and Head of TV and Communications at CAF, addressed the participants online, encouraging them to make the most of the workshop and implement what they learn when they return to their respective countries.
The workshop, which is scheduled to conclude on April 30, 2025, is being conducted by CAF Media Manager Charlotte Pelagie Eyoum and CAF Consultant Mondher Chaouachi.
The workshop has attracted media officers from Kenya, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Somalia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan, Burundi, Djibouti, and Uganda, marking a significant step towards building the region’s capacity in football media management.
