Uganda Cranes forward Denis Omedi played a key role in APR’s 3-1 victory over Amagaju on Saturday at Kigali Pele Stadium, scoring from the penalty spot to help the army side reclaim the top position in the Rwandan Premier League.
Omedi’s 62nd-minute strike, a well-taken penalty that sent goalkeeper Clement Twagirumukiza the wrong way, came at a crucial moment when APR was pushing to extend their lead.
His goal made it 2-0 and added to the momentum created by Djibril Ouatarra’s early opener in the 12th minute.
The opportunity for Omedi came after APR winger Gilbert Mugisha saw his cross blocked by the hand of defender Hadji Bizimana, prompting the referee to point to the spot.
Omedi stepped up with confidence and converted, continuing his growing influence in APR’s attacking setup.
The striker’s performance was instrumental as APR dominated large stretches of the game, with their fluid build-up play allowing players like Omedi and Mugisha to exploit spaces created by Ouatarra’s movements across the front line.
Although Amagaju pulled one back in the 85th minute through Edouard Ndayishimiye, APR sealed the win deep into added time with substitute Frodouard Mugiraneza adding a third goal in the 94th minute.
