Defending champions St. Julian High School crashed out of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys’ Football Nationals after a 3-1 defeat to Jinja Progressive Academy in the round of 16 on Sunday, May 11.
The match, played at Ngora Pitch 1, saw St. Julian’s title defence brought to an abrupt end, with Jinja Progressive Academy securing a convincing win to progress to the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende delivered a dominant performance to dispatch Blessed Sacrament Kimanya in a match that had been widely anticipated as a potential thriller.
Kitende’s clinical display underlined their credentials as tournament favourites as they booked their spot in the last eight.
The quarterfinals will now see St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende take on Kibuli SS, Bukedea Comprehensive School face Kyadondo SS, Buddo SS go up against Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, and Jinja Progressive Academy battle Mentor SS.
