Blacks Power reignited their Uganda Premier League (UPL) promotion ambitions on Sunday evening with a decisive 2-0 victory over Onduparaka at a packed UTC Lira Playground.
The Lira-based side, who came into the match on the back of two consecutive draws, delivered a statement performance to move level on points with table leaders Buhimba United Saints.
After an evenly contested and goalless first half, new signing Baker Buyala made the difference in the second period.
The former Gaddafi forward opened the scoring in the 60th minute before sealing the win 16 minutes later with his second goal of the evening, sending home fans into celebrations and earning his team a crucial three points.
The result lifts Blacks Power to second in the FUFA Big League standings after 21 games, giving them momentum as they head into a decisive stretch of fixtures.
Onduparaka, meanwhile, continue to slide down the table. The Arua-based club now sits in ninth place, just five points above the relegation zone, and will need to find form quickly to avoid being dragged into a survival battle.
Looking ahead, Blacks Power will be tested with two away fixtures in West Nile—against Calvary on May 15 and Paidha Black Angels on May 18. The trips are considered pivotal in the title race, given the historical difficulty for visiting sides to pick up points in the region.
Onduparaka will hope for a response when they visit seventh-placed Kataka in Mbale on May 18.
