Cricket legend Virat Kohli has announced his immediate retirement from Test cricket.
The 36-year-old’s decision comes just before India’s five-Test series in England starting June 20th, and follows Rohit Sharma’s recent retirement from the format.
Kohli played 123 Tests for India, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85.
In a social media post, he reflected on his 14-year journey, stating the format “tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.”
Having debuted in 2011, Kohli captained India in 68 Tests, leading them to a record 40 wins. While he retired from T20 internationals after India’s 2024 World Cup victory, he is expected to continue playing ODIs.
Kohli, considered one of his era’s batting greats, scored 30 Test centuries.
His last ton was in November against Australia. He acknowledged the difficulty of his decision but felt it was the right time, expressing gratitude for the game and its people.
