Coco Gauff proved too strong for Emma Raducanu, ending the Briton’s encouraging Italian Open run in the last 16 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Despite the loss, reaching the fourth round marked Raducanu’s best clay-court performance.
Gauff, a former French Open finalist, showcased her clay-court prowess, overpowering the world number 49.
Raducanu acknowledged her relative inexperience on the surface, but her recent form, including eight wins in eleven matches since working with coach Mark Petchey, offers optimism for the upcoming French Open.
Raducanu’s resurgence has also tightened the battle for British number one with Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal all in close contention.
