Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) and Bukedea Comprehensive School are the first two schools to book their slots in the semi-finals of the 2025 USSSA Boys’ Football Championship, following thrilling victories on Monday in Ngora.
JIPRA sealed their passage with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Lira-based Mentor SS in the opening quarter-final played at Ngora High School playground, with Richard Okello netting the decisive goal.
Okello, who also captains Uganda’s U-17 national team headed to the World Cup, stepped up when it mattered most, guiding his side into the final four.
The win was a continuation of JIPRA’s impressive run, having knocked out defending champions St Julian High School 3-1 in the round of 16.
That match saw Asuman Kayondo and Simon Achiidi (with a brace) on target, with St Julian’s only goal coming from James Ssekate.
In the second quarter-final, Bukedea Comprehensive School edged Kyadondo SS in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Bukedea’s captain, Godfrey Ssekibengo, who plays for URA Football Club, gave his side the lead before Kyadondo SS struck late to force spot-kicks.
In a tense shootout that had fans on edge, Bukedea emerged 8-7 winners, earning their second penalty triumph of the tournament after a similar result against Mvara SS in the round of 32.
The semi-final lineup will be completed after the remaining two quarter-final ties are played.
Record winners St Mary’s Kitende take on Kibuli SS, while Buddo SS face Uganda Martyrs Lubaga in yet another battle of heavyweights.
