Defending champion Joseph Cwinyaai delivered a landmark performance on the opening day of the 2025 Captain’s Bell Tournament, carding a sensational 63 to break the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) course record and establish an early lead in the competition.
Cwinyaai, who also serves as captain of Uganda’s national golf team, entered the tournament on the back of a recent victory at the President’s Cup.
His nine-under-par round not only reaffirmed his form but also set a new benchmark at the Kitante-based course.
“I said before this year I want to perform to my highest expectations,” Cwinyaai said after his historic round.
“Coming in today I wanted to hit par at every hole. Being the defending champion of this tournament I wanted to lead from day one and I am glad I achieved that today. Moving forward I look to perform even better for the days ahead. To my fans and followers, expect a lot of good games from me.”
Cwinyaai’s composed and commanding performance underscored why he is currently considered one of Uganda’s top golfers.
His start places him firmly at the front of the field as the Captain’s Bell Tournament continues through May 17.
The annual Captain’s Bell Tournament is a signature event on the Uganda Golf Club calendar, combining competitive play with club tradition.
This year’s tournament is backed by a UGX 179 million sponsorship from Absa Bank Uganda, which includes a UGX 20 million cash prize for the professional category.
