Everton announced on Tuesday that their iconic Goodison Park will become the home of their Women’s Super League team next season, after the men’s side moves to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
Instead of demolishing the 132-year-old ground, Everton will preserve it for their women’s team, who currently play at Walton Hall Park.
With a capacity of nearly 40,000, Goodison will be England’s largest dedicated women’s football stadium.
Everton Women’s captain Megan Finnigan hailed the move as a “testament to where the women’s game is right now.”
Club chief executive Angus Kinnear acknowledged potential challenges but affirmed the commitment to making the venture a success.
Goodison Park will also host some youth academy matches.
