KCCA Netball Club began their East African Club Championship journey with an explosive 65-25 win over Zanzibar’s JKU Sports Club, stamping their authority on the regional stage from the get-go.
Despite a 40-goal winning margin, KCCA head coach Fred Mugerwa was not entirely satisfied, citing unforced errors and missed opportunities.
“We didn’t play the way we wanted. We should have scored more,” Mugerwa admitted post-match, underscoring the high standards expected of his team.
Nevertheless, the performance had several positives. KCCA controlled all four quarters with a high tempo and precise ball distribution.
Their offensive prowess was clear, and the defensive line effectively neutralized JKU’s attacks.
This win places KCCA in a strong position ahead of upcoming fixtures, including a mouth-watering tie against defending champions NIC.
With fellow Ugandan clubs NIC and Prisons also starting with impressive victories, KCCA’s performance adds to a dominant Ugandan display on day one.
KCCA now shifts focus to their next game against Zimamoto, the same team NIC outclassed.
The result could set the tone for KCCA’s challenge in a group that promises fierce battles among familiar foes.
Coach Mugerwa remains confident: “Our aim is to win every game. If we meet NIC, we believe we can beat them too.”
