Vipers Sports Club have been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League after a commanding 2-0 away win over Kitara FC at Royal Park Stadium in Butema, Hoima
Goals from Gusto Mulongo and Yunus Sentamu sealed the title for the Kitende-based side with one game to spare, taking their points tally to an unassailable 68; four clear of second-placed NEC.
Coming into the decisive fixture, the Venoms needed just a victory to mathematically seal the crown, regardless of the result between NEC and SC Villa.
After a disappointing weekend loss to BUL that delayed their title party, John Ayala Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza’s side responded with poise and purpose.
The visitors dominated proceedings from the outset, fielding a full-strength side despite a looming Uganda Cup semifinal return leg against the same opponents.
The decision paid immediate dividends in the 14th minute when Kitara goalkeeper Farouk Yawe failed to deal with Allan Okello’s curling free-kick.
The spilled ball fell to Livingstone Mulondo, who calmly squared it for Mulongo to tap home from close range.
Vipers maintained control for much of the game, with Kitara struggling to create clear-cut chances.
The home side, under head coach Wasswa Bbosa, had opted to rest key players in anticipation of their upcoming cup clash.
Even so, they pushed for an equaliser after the break but lacked the finishing touch.

Any hopes of a comeback were quashed in the 68th minute. Milton Karisa, ever industrious on the right wing, rose to flick on a header into the path of Yunus Sentamu, who coolly finished past Yawe to double Vipers’ advantage.
Kitara’s best chance came late in the game when Titus Sematimba rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort, but the visitors were never truly threatened.
Elsewhere, NEC edged SC Villa 1-0 at Wankulukuku, but the result was nullified by the the title race remained alive only on paper—until Vipers’ result in Hoima officially settled the contest.
The triumph marks Vipers SC’s seventh league title, adding to their collection from 2009/10, 2014/15, 2017/18, 2019/20, 2021/22, and 2022/23.
The Venoms will now turn their attention to completing a potential domestic double.
They hold a 1-0 aggregate lead heading into the second leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal against Kitara this weekend.
Should they progress, Vipers will be well-positioned to reclaim the Cup they last won in 2023.
Their final league fixture will see them host already relegated Soltilo Bright Stars at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende; where they will receive the championship trophy in front of their fans.
